Ron Wallin is the new president of the Whidbey Island Public Hospital District Board of Commissioners.

He was elected by his fellows Monday at a board meeting to fill the leadership spot vacated by Anne Tarrant, who is stepping down June 22. The vote was not unanimous; commissioner Georgia Gardner cast the lone “no” vote but didn’t elaborate why.

Wallin had been serving as board secretary. That position will be held by Commissioner Nancy Fey.

Tarrant’s term runs through 2017.

The board will appoint someone to fill her spot from District 5, which extends south from the Deception Pass Bridge to the intersection of Crescent Harbor Road and Regatta Drive in Oak Harbor.

Commissioners are accepting applications to fill her seat. Interested parties should contact commissioner Wallin at wghdistrict3@whidbeygen.org
