Haugen schedules town hall meetings
Sen. Mary Margaret Haugen,
D-Camano Island, is hosting a series of town hall meetings this week to talk about this year’s legislative session.
“The feedback I get during these community meetings is extremely valuable,” Haugen said. “The Legislature tackled a lot of important issues this session and it’s important for me to hear the thoughts of the people in my district and get inspiration for future legislation.”
Town hall meetings will be held at
7 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, in the Oak Harbor School District Office at
350 S. Oak Harbor St., Oak Harbor; at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 17, at Coupeville High School; and 7 p.m. Thursday,
April 17, at the Bayview Senior Center.
Democrats to hold convention, caucus
The Island County Democratic Party will hold its convention and 10th Legislative District Caucus on Saturday, April 19 at Langley Middle School in Langley.
Delegates and alternates elected at the precinct caucuses on Feb. 9 and interested Democrats are invited to attend. Registration will start at 9 and stop at 11 a.m.
At the convention, delegates and alternates will be elected to the
2nd Congressional District Caucus and the Washington State Convention. There will also be a vote on platform resolutions that were submitted during and after the precinct caucuses.
Priority seating will be given to

Whidbey makes
magazine cover
American Road magazine is spotlighting Whidbey Island for its spring/fifth anniversary issue.
The publication highlights the joys and adventures of traveling America’s back roads. The Whidbey Island feature includes five illustration-packed pages on the historic allure of Langley, Coupeville, Fort Casey, Oak Harbor and more.
“We are thrilled to feature Whidbey Island in our fifth anniversary issue,” said magazine cofounder Becky Repp. “Our reader response to this issue has been overwhelming.”
The magazine will be on newsstands across the country through May.
League hosts booth at sustainability fair
Mendy McLean-Stone, co-president of The League of Women Voters of Whidbey Island, will present “How to be politically active about the environment” at a sustainability fair later this month at the Skagit Valley College Whidbey Campus.
The group will also host a booth to provide information. The fair is 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 19.

Bakke to meet with community group
Island County Commissioner Phil Bakke will meet with the Association of the Community at Holmes Harbor later this month.
The association will welcome Bakke to a community meeting at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 26 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Freeland.
Bakke will talk about the impact of population growth in South Whidbey, the progress of the shellfish protection district, Freeland incorporation and related issues.
Box lunch benefit
is now taking orders
Island County Readiness to Learn is now taking orders for its Box Lunch Fundraiser.
Each $10 donation reserves a box lunch that’s delivered to the donor; a gourmet turkey, roast beef or
veggie wrap, chips, fruit, cookie, bottled water and a coffee certificate from Whidbey Coffee. Proceeds go to Island County Readiness to Learn, a nonprofit that helps families and children in the community.

Hospital to host health fair in Langley
Whidbey General Hospital is hosting the “Healthy Living Fair” at Brookhaven Housing Complex in Langley.
The event, open to all Whidbey Island residents, includes education and services to support safe and healthy independent living. It’s scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 23.
Among the services offered are walking device “tune-ups,” instruction in adaptive aides and home safety modifications, blood pressure checks and information on managing breathing medications, a tobacco cessation specialist and information on end-of-life decisions.

Senior center plans Cirque Du Soleil trip
The Bayview Senior Center is planning a trip to see the world-renowned Cirque Du Soleil perform their newest show “Corteo.”
The show will take place at Marymoor Park in Redmond. Tickets cost $125 and include the Friday, May 16 performance plus bus, ferry and parking.
