Oak Harbor man injured in motorcycle crash Monday

Kyle Sperling struck the side of an eastbound car while riding a motorcycle on Crescent Harbor Road.

A 27-year-old Oak Harbor man was seriously injured in a motorcycle-versus-car accident Monday night on North Whidbey, according to a report from the Washington State Patrol.

Kyle Sperling was riding a 2021 Huansong motorcycle west on Crescent Harbor Road and struck the side of an eastbound 2015 Chevrolet Sonic car as it was turning onto northbound Crescent Acres, the report states.

The collision was reported at 10:19 p.m.

Sperling was seriously injured and transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment. Joy Oldemeyer, the driver of the Chevrolet Sonic, was not injured. She is also an Oak Harbor resident.

Sperling was not wearing a USDOT-compliant helmet. The cause of the crash may have been due to a lack of operational lights; charges against Sperling may be pending, the report states.

The motorcycle was totaled in the crash. The car sustained reportable damage.
