Selma Elf Green
Selma Elf Green, 87, passed away March 30, 2002, at homeunder hospice care, surrounded by her Maui, Hawaii, family and friends.
Mrs. Green was born April 1, 1914, and raised on Whidbey Island. She married Arviel Elf in 1936. They had two sons, Roy and Walter. The family moved to Ballard in 1942.
Mrs. Green was a homemaker, and also worked as a dietitian at Firland’s TB Sanitarium. She moved back to Whidbey in 1972 and married Clay Green in 1974. They enjoyed RVing and gardening. Mrs. Green survived both husbands and in 1999 moved to Maui to be closer to her sons and their families.
She was a wonderful mother and mother-in-law, grandma, great-grandma and good friend. She was of the Lutheran faith and a 100 percent Finlander and proud of it. She will be missed but lovingly remembered.
She is survived by sons Roy Elf and wife Glen and Walter Elf and wife Sharon; six grandchildren, Michael, Mark and wife Leila, Shari, Shelly and husband Scott Hefner, Ken, and Steve Elf and wife Jessica; seven great-grandchildren; and a nephew, John Hilberg of Whidbey Island.
A family service was held on Maui. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Hospice Maui, 808-244-5555. A service and burial will take place on Whidbey in May.
The family would also like to thank Dr. Rod Bjordahl, Dr. Kamaka (Hospice), Lisa and Tim Dalms, Roxanne Degenstein, Melchora Marzan, Maui Adult Day Care and Kaunoa Services for all their help at this difficult time.
