Loren Eugene Cannon, 83, died Jan. 24, 2002, at Careage of Whidbey.

He was born Oct. 22, 1918, in Seattle, to Osa and Dora Cannon. Mr. Cannon was married to Phyllis J. Young on May 16, 1940. She preceded him in death in April 2001.

Mr. Cannon graduated from the University of Washington. He later went to apprenticeship school for glazing, then worked as a glazier for Belknaps Glass Co. in Seattle. He retired in the 1960s. He also taught glazing in Seattle for many years. After his retirement, Whidbey Island became his home. He moved to the island in 1966.

Mr. Cannon served during World War II in the Navy on a destroyer. He was an avid golfer, golfing at Holmes Harbor and Useless Bay. He was a member of the Holmes Harbor Rod and Gun Club and belonged to the American Legion. His passion, however, was gardening, especially his vegetable garden, which he so generously shared with others.

He is survived by a daughter, Sandrajean Wainwright, of Langley, and grandsons, Jonny Wainwright of Battleground, Ore., and Richard Wainwright of Sanford, Fla.

A private family inurnment will be held at Langley Cemetery at a later date. Cremation was entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel in Oak Harbor.
