Nicholas Charles Meisch Sr.
Funeral Mass for Nicholas Charles Meisch Sr. will be celebrated March 9, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Coupeville. Rev. John J. O’Leary, SJ, of St. Mary’s and Rev. John C. Madigan of St. Stephen the Martyr, Renton, will concelebrate. Cremation was held with private family inurnment to follow at a later date.
Mr. Meisch Sr. died of a heart attack Feb. 22, 2002, at his home in Clinton. He was born Aug. 28, 1961, in Great Lakes, Ill., to Adolph P. and Dolores M. (Trafton) Meisch Sr. He graduated from the Northshore school district in Bothell.
Nick loved the outdoors. He derived pleasure from the mountains to the depths of the sound. He was an avid water and snow skier, diver, whitewater rafter, river guide and most recently, sailor. At the time of his death he was developing plans for a charter boat service aboard his sailboat Flight Risk. Nick was a member of the Whidbey Island Naval Sailing Association. Sailing became his great joy and brought peace to his life.
Nick spent several years serving as a volunteer firefighter with the town of Index, a job in which he took great pride. He lived in Clinton for the past two years.
Nick is survived by a son, Nicholas Charles Meisch Jr.; his parents, Adolph and Dolores Meisch of Oak Harbor; eight brothers and sisters and their spouses: Dolores Struthers (Duane) of Calloway, N.M.; Rosanne Berkey (Bill) of Las Vegas; Adolph P. “Skip” Meisch Jr. (Roberta) of Bothell; Cheryl Parrott (Doug) of Edmonds; Susan Lingenfelter of Renton; Timothy Meisch Sr. (Cheryl) of Bothell; Roberta Phillips (Craig) of Woodinville; and Jill-Ann Cooper (Doug) of Mercer Island; 15 nieces and nephews; and eight grandnieces and grandnephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Index Volunteer Firefighters Association. Cremation was held under the direction of the Burley Funeral Chapel, Oak Harbor.
