Nichols was a crewman on the USS Raleigh in 1941. The cruiser was the first ship hit by a torpedo during the Pearl Harbor attack. Nichols was joined by a number of other veterans and family members of veterans at the Langley Post Office for the event. The remembrance was one of two held on Whidbey Island Thursday. Several Pearl Harbor survivors were honored at a ceremony at NAS Whidbey. “
