Police find marijuana grow operation

A man who police say had a marijuana growing operation in an apartment located behind Saucy's Pizza in Clinton was recently sentenced to time in the county jail.

“A man who police say had a marijuana growing operation in an apartment located behind Saucy’s Pizza in Clinton was recently sentenced to time in the county jail.Ernest Johnson, 31, of Clinton pleaded guilty to manufacturing of a controlled substance, marijuana, in Island County Superior Court March 30.Johnson was sentenced to five months in jail and a year of community custody. He was fined $3,127.Island County Detective Robert Clark wrote in the affidavit of probable cause that he was able to get a search warrant on Johnson’s apartment after his landlord reported that he smelled marijuana smoke. Clark also knocked on the door and smelled the pungent odor. The apartment is located in the rear of the pizza restaurant.When he served the warrant, Clark found a marijuana growing operation in one of the rooms. He seized 34 plants, about 14 to 16 inches each; marijuana buds in two jars in the freezer; and a bag of stems and shake. Johnson was also caught with a plastic bag of marijuana in his pants pocket. “
