Positions open on port’s fairgrounds committee

The Port of South Whidbey is accepting letters of interest for those wishing to serve on the Fairgrounds Advisory Committee.

On an annual basis three positions — two at-large representatives and one tenant representative — are appointed to the committee by a majority vote of the permanent members of the committee.

The three available positions will be appointed at the Fairgrounds Advisory Committee meeting scheduled for 3 p.m., Oct. 25. in the Coffman Building on the fairgrounds at 819 Camano Avenue, Langley.

Those interested in serving in either an at-large or tenant member position should mail a brief letter of interest that outlines their qualifications and desire to serve on the committee to the Port of South Whidbey, PO Box 872, Freeland, WA 98249; or deliver in person to the port office at 1804 Scott Road, suite 101 in Freeland.

Letters of interest must arrive no later than close of business on Monday, Oct. 14.

The port formed a Fairgrounds Advisory Committee of stakeholders to provide input to the port commissioners on the management of the property.

At-large members need to live in South Whidbey. However, at-large members may not be a member of the organizations that make up the permanent committee members, nor a tenant of the fairgrounds.

The tenant member can be any person or entity holding a current lease or contract for fairgrounds facilities. Tenant organizations that hold a permanent committee position are not eligible for the position.
