“While your children are having fun swimming, camping, going to the county fair and growing taller, South Whidbey Primary School is busy getting things ready for another school year. Classes will begin for first and second graders on Tuesday, Sept. 5. The school day starts at 8:55 a.m. and ends at 3:25 p.m.The district will be sending letters at the end of this month letting parents of new kindergarten students know what time to come to school on Sept. 5. Kindergarten children and their parents are invited to attend an hour-long orientation on the first day of school.There are still spaces available in the full-day kindergarten program, which charges a monthly tuition of $300. Parents need to complete a letter of interest and attach a deposit check of $50 which will be applied to the first month’s tuition.School buses will follow routes similar to those of last year. Look for an article in The South Whidbey Record listing major bus stops and pick-up times.The school breakfast/lunch program will be in full swing the first day of school. Meal costs are $1.50 for lunch and 90 cents for breakfast. Free and reduced lunch prices are available for low income families, but parents must reapply for them every year. Applications will be sent home with all students the first day of school. Please return applications to the school your child attends.Class placements for the coming school year will be posted in the primary school office windows after 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 29. Along with these placements will be lists of supplies needed for first and second graders.If you are new to South Whidbey School District, or if your child will be attending kindergarten this fall and you have not yet registered, the school urges you to do so right away. The district is finalizing class placements and wants to be sure to include your child. The school office will be open beginning Monday, Aug. 14 from 9 a.m. to noon and 1-3 p.m.”
