Langley Middle School recently hired an interim principal to fulfill duties vacated by former principal Suzi Mach, who submitted a letter of resignation on Oct. 1.

James McNally, a retired administrator who spent many years with Everett Public Schools and served as principal of Evergreen Middle School from 1992-2002, will work 105 days for a total of $44,448 between now and June 30, according to school documents.

“I’ve been there three days now,” McNally said on Oct. 28. “I’ve been really enjoying it, the kids are just amazing. The level of respect and ability is unlike anything I’ve seen in any district.”

Mach, who later rescinder her resignation but was placed on administrative leave, will begin a leave of absence from now until Jan. 30, 2016, or until she obtains employment, whichever occurs sooner. She signed a resignation agreement with the district, effective Feb. 1. It represents a negotiated resolution to end her contract prior to its expiration on June 30, 2016, according to a letter Superintendent Jo Moccia submitted to the board of directors.

Mach’s annual salary of $100,898 has been prorated and will end no later than Jan. 31 for an amount not to exceed $53,200.

The maximum salary the district will spend on the middle school principal position for the 2015-16 school year is $97,648.
