Two South Whidbey girls were hurt in a car accident Wednesday night when the car they were riding in flipped on a rain-soaked road.

According to the Washington State Patrol, a 1990 Toyota Camry driven by Jennifer Murphy, 16, of Clinton rolled over on its top on Craw Road at about 8:25 p.m. Wednesday. The rollover occurred after Murphy failed to negotiate a curve and left the roadway. The car struck a large rock, which flipped it on its top.

Rescue volunteers from Fire Protection District 3 removed Murphy and her passenger, 16-year-old Maria Demaray of Langley, from the car and treated them at the scene with help from Whidbey General Hospital paramedics. Both girls were transported to the hospital for treatment.

The girls were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident. The car was declared a total loss by the state patrol.
