“Check those cereal boxes and cake mixes in the pantry. If they have a Box Tops logo on the package, they’re worth money to South Whidbey Primary School. The students there are working to collect enough box tops to raise $500 for Rainy Day playground equipment, games and books. It’s part of a fund-raising opportunity sponsored by General Mills. To date, the school has almost $300 toward their goal, and now the final push is on, with the program’s Final Turn-in Contest under way.The first graders in Mrs. Leach’s room brought in 454 box tops during the Fall/Winter Turn-in Contest, earning their class a $25 prize for a special class party or project. Now they’ve challenged the other classes to meet or beat their record before the deadline of March 24.Box tops can be clipped from a number of General Mills, Betty Crocker and Lloyd’s BBQ products and dropped in various community locations, including Southend libraries and Red Apple markets. They also be brought directly to the primary school. For more information, contact Donna Ertel Riley at SWPS, 221-6200, or visit General Mills Web site, www.boxtops4education.com. “
