“Check those cereal boxes and cake mixes in the pantry. If they have a Box Tops logo on the package, they’re worth money to South Whidbey Primary School.The students there are working to collect enough box tops to raise $500 for Rainy Day playground equipment, games and books. It’s part of a fund-raising opportunity sponsored by General Mills. To date, the school has almost $300 toward their goal, and now the final push is on, with the program’s Final Turn-in Contest under way.The first graders in Mrs. Leach’s room brought in 454 box tops during the Fall/Winter Turn-in Contest, earning their class a $25 prize for a special class party or project. Now they’ve challenged the other classes to meet or beat their record before the deadline of March 24.Box tops can be clipped from a number of General Mills, Betty Crocker and Lloyd’s BBQ products and dropped in various community locations, including Southend libraries and Red Apple markets.
