“Falcon boys beat Mount BakerSouth Whidbey breezed by Mount Baker in a boys golf match Tuesday at Useless Bay.The Falcons had no trouble with their North Cascades Conference rivals as the hosts won 407 to 437. It was a pummeling, said coach Mick Heggenes.Charlie Bass showed he is tuning up for post-season play by recording a 79 for medalist honors. Through 13 he was only two over for the day, said Heggenes. His unlucky hole was 17, where a tree shot bounced onto a cart pass and out of bounds, resulting in a double bogey.The rest of the Falcons also played well. Dorian Sidhu scored 84, Alec Osenbach 86, Chuck Applebee 87, and Ro Brown 90.On Monday, the Falcons played head-to-head against powerful Monroe at Oak Harbor and lost 407 to 437. They had four guys in the 70s, said Heggenes of the opposition. Leading the Falcons were Bass and Osenbach each with a solid 84.Girls see golf actionThe Falcon girls also saw golf action last week. In a league match Tuesday against Mount Baker, South Whidbey scored 569 to the Mountaineers’ winning 525. Burlington-Edison, a 3A school, sent its JV team, which finished one stroke behind the falcons. Senior Amy Brunner shot a 95 to lead the Falcons while freshman Adriene Hawley showed improvement with a 117.Monday at the Burlington Invitational the Falcon girls scored a collective 473 with Brunner’s 93 leading the way.”
