The South Whidbey School Board will meet in a two-hour workshop today to talk about the failure of the $25 million bond measure during the November election and outline possible next steps.

District Superintendent Fred McCarthy is expected to offer his suggestions, and the board will also talk about what needs to be done to have a successful bond election.

Citing limited time, the school board met last week and members said they would not rerun the bond measure — which would have funded critical repairs in district schools, as well as renovations at South Whidbey High School to accommodate the move of Langley Middle School to the Maxwelton Road campus — in February.

Two other bond-related workshops are planned. The next is on Jan. 19, and will include a discussion with bond attorney Jim McNeil, bond underwriter Jim Blumenthal and architect Brian Fitzgerald.

Another workshop will be held on Feb. 2.

The board will meet from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. today in the library at the South Whidbey Primary School campus.
