“With a new set of bylaws, organizational structure and officers seeing it into the new century, South Whidbey Tilth has begun detailed planning for its relocated Tilth Farmer’s Market, which will be situated on Thompson Road and Highway 525 and should be open by traditional market opening day, May 13.A nonprofit organization serving farmers, gardeners and consumers interested in environmentally sound, organic horticulture, SWT recently approved restructuring to elect a president and a six-member council of trustees. Chosen to head South Whidbey Tilth was Susan Prescott, a charter member in the 18-year-old organization. Prescott has encouraged the development of a vigorous public educational program and been part of the growth of the Farmer’s Market from a small operation into a significant factor of South Whidbey’s economy.Joining Prescott on the Council of Trustees are Frank Parent, secretary; Janie Pulsifer, treasurer; Eric Will, land stewardship; Caroline Thibodaux, market affairs; Molly Petersons, education and liaison with Orach; and Jerry Dunham, community relations and membership. Representatives from SWT to the Washington State Tilth Association are Prescott and Fred Pettit. The Tilth Farmer’s Market had been located at Bayview Corner since its inception, moving to Thompson Road this past year following the land’s purchase by Orach, Inc.”
