South Whidbey Youth Center seeks board members

The South Whidbey Youth Center is looking for community volunteers to serve on its board of directors.

“The South Whidbey Youth Center is looking for community volunteers to serve on its board of directors. Those with experience in capital campaigns, public relations, nonprofit management, fund raising, finance and law are especially needed. SWYC is seeking people who are committed to youth, care about their future and are able to give of their time and energy.The youth center funds a number of projects that serve local young people. At Langley Middle School a homework room operates two afternoons a week, and over 30 mentors/tutors have been matched to students needing assistance. SWYC also provides a program to students who have been suspended from school, and trains students in resolving interpersonal conflicts.Each weekday afternoon more than 50 young people come to the youth center for snacks, games, art projects and conversation. The South Whidbey Youth Center sponsors several programs aimed at helping youth resist pressures to use drugs, alcohol and tobacco.
