Students of Armstrong Taekwondo in Clinton compete well in Canada

Thirteen members of Armstrong’s Taekwondo in Clinton traveled beyond the borders of the United States to compete in the 2016 Journey to Excellence tournament in Canada on March 5. The students earned 37 total medals.

Thirteen members of Armstrong’s Taekwondo in Clinton traveled beyond the borders of the United States to compete in the 2016 Journey to Excellence tournament in Canada on March 5. The students earned 37 total medals.

Competition categories included forms, weapons, sparring, combat sparring, extreme martial arts forms, extreme martial arts weapons, creative forms and creative weapons.

Earning multiple medals were Julia Napoli, Dane Saxton, Joshua Chia, Joseph Chia, Christian Terrell, Nicholas Armstrong and Weston Dill. Earning first-place medals were Terrell in weapons and combat; Chia in forms and combat sparring; Hardaway in forms and sparring; and Cassie Terrell in weapons.

Nicholas Armstrong earned the most medals, placing second in extreme weapons, second in extreme forms, second in creative weapons, second in creative form and third in weapons.

Competing in the 40-49 age division, Armstrong Taekwondo owner Robert Armstrong finished second in weapons and second in combat sparring, while Tara Armstrong, competing in the 30-39 division, swept all six of her events. She claimed first in extreme weapons, creative weapons, creative forms, forms, sparring and combat sparring. Amber Terrell, also competing in the 30-39 age group, finished first in weapons, second in forms, third in combat sparring and third in sparring.
