Teenager killed, another injured in South Whidbey crash

One South Whidbey teenager was killed and another injured in a two-vehicle collision near Freeland early Monday evening.

The Washington State Patrol reported that 17-year-old Taylor Daniels of Clinton was pronounced dead after being airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Nevin Daniels, 19, of Clinton was injured and transported to Providence Hospital in Everett for treatment.

According to the State Patrol, Taylor Daniels was driving a 1993 Geo Prizm on Bush Point Road and stopped at the intersection with State Highway 525.

Taylor Daniels turned left in front of a 2017 Ford F450 pickup pulling a flatbed trailer on the highway. John Nelson, 40, of Warden, Wash., was driving the truck northbound.

John Nelson was not injured, nor were any of his four passengers. They included Megan Nelson, 37, and three children, ages 2, 8 and 11. The trooper’s report indicates that the 11-year-old boy was transported to WhidbeyHealth Medical Center.

The report states that the cause of the accident was failure to yield. Drugs and alcohol were not involved.
