The Better Birthday Club is looking for shoppers

"If you like to shop, or wrap presents, even deliver them? The Better Birthday Club, which provides a happy birthday for kids from low income and at-risk homes, is looking for volunteers. "

“Do you like to shop? Would you enjoy getting together with a group of friends to wrap presents? Do you have the skills to organize monthly birthday present distribution? Can you drive and deliver presents once a month? Join the Better Birthday Club. The Better Birthday Club is a program of the local Child Abuse Prevention Foundation (CAPF). It serves children who have been taken out of their homes due to an abusive situation, as well as children from low income and at-risk homes. The goal of the club is to provide a happy birthday to Whidbey children in need, to show these children that their community cares for them. Each month the Better Birthday Club gathers requests from local social service agencies for birthdays of children that come up in the next month. Volunteers shop for the presents, and then gather for a wrapping party to wrap and organize the presents for each child. Volunteers then deliver the packages to the agency that made the request, and the agency distributes the presents to the child in need.CAPF is currently recruiting volunteers to learn key positions in the Better Birthday Club, to act as back-ups for current workers. If you have a desire to work for the betterment of children on Whidbey Island, or if you just like to shop, give them a call at 331-7343, toll-free at 877-331-7343, or e-mail to child@whidbey.com. “
