School work almost done

“South Whidbey School District No. 206 is going into the final stages of preparation for the upcoming school year, according to Superintendent Ralph Denham.

“The wife of new high school principal Bill Branian will be working as a psychologist for the school district under the auspices of County Superintendent Helen Bank. It is planned that Mrs. Branian will work three half-days out of the week in Langley, and the two remaining half-days in Coupeville. Her position is being financed through the office of the County Superintendent at no direct cost to the school district. Interviews of candidates for the positions of elementary school secretary and high school study hall supervisor will be held Aug. 16 at the school.”

Housing

authority wins, ‘Baby’ moves out

“The saga of Billie Gibson’s cat ‘Baby,’ has come to an end.

“He’s gone.

“You remember Gibson’s dilemma? The Island County Housing Authority, due to complaints from other tenants at Brookhaven, cracked down on residents with two pets. The regulations stated that there could be only one pet per house.

“Gibson had to get rid of her beloved cat or possibly lose pet privileges. A potential disaster which could have meant losing her longtime companion, a 19-year-old three-legged dog affectionately named ‘Stella.’ Gibson said Baby left on Tuesday, July 31 —

a victim of regulations — taken by a friend of Gibson’s on South Whidbey Island.”
