The fourth annual national celebration, Read Across America, again honored Dr. Seuss in South Whidbey school classrooms last week. Prominent figures from the schools, including School Superintendent Dr. Martin Laster, donned the famous red and white striped hat and read from their favorite Dr. Seuss books to kids in South Whidbey primary and intermediate schools. In addition to Laster, who read in Mrs. Talbot’s first grade classroom, Tim Gordon, vice principal of Langley Middle School came to the multiage classroom of Mrs. Haugen and Mrs. LeWarne; Bob Riggs, a member of the school board, read to Ms. Morris’ kindergarten class; and Mike Johnson, South Whidbey High School principal, read a story in Ms. Elliot’s second grade room.Other readers were Primary School Principal Bernadine Mahar; Doug Hale, principal of the Intermediate School; Eric Nerison from South Whidbey High School; Jim Adsley and Barbara Schneeman from the school board; Elizabeth Schneeman and Intermediate School students from Mrs. Hewitson’s and Mrs. Thompson’s 5th grade classes. “
