“South Whidbey track runners set four new meet records Saturday as the boys and girls teams combined for 15 event wins at Eisenhower High School’s Holder Relays.Running in varsity, frosh-soph, and freshman divisions, the two teams placed high in the meet, which is the one of the largest of the season. The girl Falcons had the best day out, taking fifth in the team standings, while the boys placed 10th.Posting records were sophomore Andy Wills in the 400, Katy McGillen in the freshman 100 hurdles, and the Falcon boys 4×100 relay team and distance medley team. Medley runners Brett Perkins, Joe Candelario, Braden Giswold, and Bruce Hymas – running as the Killer B’s plus C – blasted out one of the most dominating races of the day, crushing the previous meet record by 14 seconds on their way to a 10:55 finish. Giswold was also a winner in the 3,200, while Wills posted victories in the frosh-soph runnings of the 100 and 200 dashes. Sophomore Brandon Bilyeu was also impressive, running just one-tenth of a second short of a meet record in the frosh-soph 800. He won the race with a time of 2:02.The Falcon girls did their damage in a variety of events. In the distances, junior Karen Schwager won the varsity 1,600 while senior Sarah DeGraaf won the 3,200. Senior Dail Bates was the queen of the sprints, winning the 100 and bolstering the Falcons’ third-place 4×100 squad. Elsewhere on the track and field, the McGillen sisters, Andrea and Katy, piled up four event wins between them. Andrea won the triple jump, placed second in the pole vault, then leapt to the meet’s airiest long jump to lead the girls long jump relay team to victory.Katy scored her wins in the freshman events, taking the high jump, long jump and 100 hurdles. Her meet-record hurdles time of 16.6 seconds was .31 seconds faster than the previous mark.The Falcons come back home Thursday afternoon for a conference meet on the Waterman Field track. “
