Whidbey Presbyterian donates to Mother Mentors

The church presented Mother Mentors Director Kate McVay with a check for $10,000 on Sept. 12.

Whidbey Presbyterian Church made a sizable donation to local nonprofit Mother Mentors earlier this month.

Mother Mentors is a Whidbey-based organization that provides practical and emotional support to mothers and other caregivers of young children.

Whidbey Presbyterian Pastor Greg Steible and church stewardship chair Jim Rohrback presented Mother Mentors Director Kate McVay with a check for $10,000 on Sept. 12.

The money will go toward an ongoing staff and volunteer training program as well as recruitment efforts.

The church has also provided the nonprofit with supplemental office space in the church’s blue house.

In August, the congregation donated $85,000 to the Whidbey Homeless Coalition to be put toward renovations on a church building that the coalition is converting to an overnight emergency shelter.
