Whidbey Queer Pride Parade postponed

May be canceled this year, organizers say

Whidbey’s Queer Pride Parade tentatively scheduled for Sunday, June 16, in Langley has been postponed.

Organizers, who call themselves Team Fabulous, announced the decision on the Facebook page of QPOW, Queer Pride on Whidbey.

The parade may occur in August or be canceled for 2019.

The annual festive event that always attracts colorful crowds to downtown Langley has occurred every summer in June or August since 2014; it often included a weekend of workshops, theater and other activities.

“With a change in leadership and several Team Fabulous members facing health/life issues, we are delaying the parade to (at least) August this year,” organizers said online and in a statement. “There is a chance we will have to cancel the event until Pride Season 2020.”

Skye Newkirk, who led parade planning in past years, has moved to a new job off island.

“We apologize for any difficult feelings this may cause, and know that our deepest desire is to see the parade continue rolling,” the post said.
