A homeless woman who got into a disagreement with a friend over panhandling money outside the Oak Harbor Walmart May 13 is accused of biting a piece of flesh from the man’s hand and absconding with $30 stuffed in her mouth, according to court documents.

Police found her walking away from the store shortly afterward. She had blood around her mouth and nose and wouldn’t stop chewing the cash, according to an officer’s report on the incident.

The suspect, 41-year-old Alexandra Culdice, appeared in Island County Superior Court May 16. The judge found probable cause existed to believe she committed the crimes of robbery in the first degree, assault in the second degree, obstruction of a police officer and tampering with physical evidence.

The judge set Culdice’s bail at $2,500.

The police report explains that the alleged victim was panhandling and Culdice was napping near Walmart. He woke her at about 12:45 p.m. to go into the store and showed her a $20 bill and two $5 bills he had made.

Culdice demanded the cash, saying she needed it for fentanyl patches. She grabbed his hand and tried to take it from him, the police report states.

Culdice then started biting the man’s hand and chewed off a one-inch circle of flesh, the report states. She continued biting him and bit through the skin on multiple fingers before he released the cash. She stuck the wad of money in her mouth and started walking away.

Police officers who stopped her soon afterward asked her to spit out the cash, but she refused and claimed it was hers. She continued chewing on the cash inside a police car on the ride to the Oak Harbor jail. A wet $20 bill was found on the floor of the car but she wouldn’t spit out the rest, even after being warned that the money was material evidence and she would face an obstruction charge, the report states.

Court documents indicate that Culdice’s criminal history includes assault, burglary, possession of stolen property, harassment and indecent exposure.
