“The thirteenth annual World AIDS Day will be observed around the world on Friday, Dec. 1. Local events have been planned by the Island County HIV/AIDS Task Force.World AIDS Day aims to increase awareness of the magnitude of the HIV/AIDS epidemic globally. It also offers a time for people to gather and remember those who have died of AIDS and those who are living with HIV and AIDS. This year’s World AIDS Day theme is AIDS: All Men-Make A Difference!. Because men represent the majority of people living with HIV/AIDS, the World AIDS Day 2000 theme urges all men to use their influence in their families, among their friends and in their communities to help them stem the tide of the HIV/AIDS epidemic.Langley ParkOn South Whidbey, a World AIDS Day gathering will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 1 at the shelter in Langley Park located at 2nd and Anthes. A reception will follow at the Langley United Methodist Church at 3rd and Anthes. All singers of any experience level are encouraged to participate in the musical event. Three songs will be sung to celebrate the lives of friends and family members who are living with AIDS and to remember those who have died of the disease: I Feel Like Going On, How Could Anyone? and Siyahamba (We Are Walking in the Light of Love).The songs are accessible, moving, and joyful.
