Wrestlers roll to win in Granite Falls

The South Whidbey High School wrestling team continued a week-long winning streak Thursday night by defeating Granite Falls 54-18.

“Inspired by great lightweight performances and a 28-second first round pin executed by 160-pound junior Chris Martin, the South Whidbey High School wrestling team continued a week-long winning streak Thursday night by defeating Granite Falls 54-18.Starting with freshman Phil Schorr’s 9-3 decision over Granite’s Kranson at 103 pounds, the Falcons dominated the North Cascades Conference dual meet start to finish.Winning other lightweight matches for the team were senior Mike Johnson at 125 pounds (17-14), senior Luke Smith at 130 (pin), and sophomore Chris Long at 130 (3-0).Also picking up wins were Andy Wills at 156 pounds, Ben Harris at 152, Justin Admiral at 189, and Chris Hezel at 215. Hezel had the second shortest match of the night, pinning Granite Falls’ Smith in just 31 seconds.The dual meet win follows the team’s victory at Saturday’s 12-team Sky Valley Tournament.After Thursday’s meet, South Whidbey is 3-3 in the NCC and 4-3-1 overall. “
