David Carter Moulton, 80, of Freeland, Wash.n, passed away May, 5, 2021, after a valiant battle with cancer. He was born on Jan. 13, 1941, in Billings, Mont.

He is survived by his wife Teddy; daughter Kris Leon and her husband Robert Leon; granddaughter Emily Leon; his island son Bo Curgus and his wife Danni; stepson Jeffrey Burch and his wife Lynn; and grandson Talon; and his beloved labradoodle Buddy. He was preceded in death by his parents Gay and Frederick Moulton, brother Doug Moulton and stepson Doug Burch.

He attended Montana State University studying architecture. He was a proud member of Sigma Chi and often shared stories of his fraternity brothers’ successes and good deeds.

David and Teddy were married in Bucerias, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, on April 10, 1994.

David worked for Motorola as a sales manager, a job that took him to Alaska. He loved the vast wilderness, wildlife and fishing for the wily salmon on his boat “Yukon Jack.” He finished his career in the Seattle area and, in the early 1990s, he and Teddy moved to Bush Point on Whidbey Island to remodel her family’s old home.

His long history of service started as a United States Marine. He served with many organizations over the years including the Sigma Chi Fraternity, the American Legion, the Elks, the Shriners as a member of the Jesters, and the Eagles Club, Aerie 3418, on Whidbey Island. While David loved the organizations and friends he made along the way, it was important that they helped the community.

He enjoyed checking in with old friends at the Freeland Cafe for breakfast and hanging out with fellow Eagles at the club. He was proud of being an Eagle and all the work they did to benefit Whidbey Island communities. He also enjoyed time spent with Bo and Danni at their Deer Lake home and their Friday night gatherings.

You could find him cruising up and down Highway 525 in his silver SSR on his way to meet the friends he made all over the island, all greeted with hefty hugs.

His “ROCK ON!” “WHAT-EVER BLOWS UP YOUR SKIRT,” and “TOUCHDOWN” Daveisms will be missed, but will be spoken by friends and family in his memory.

He often shared text and emails with friends, they were always in all caps for his hard of hearing friends.

A favorite pastime was watching the cruise ships and whales pass by his Puget Sound beach home at Bush Point.

He appreciated the beauty around him, posting, “PRETTY DAY! JUST THINKING ABOUT SUNSETS! ONE I ENJOYED, IS THE “LADY WASHINGTON” GOING BY THE HOUSE. GOD, I SOUND OLD, LIKE MY DAD!”

The biggest surprise of his life was learning he had a daughter, Kris. An Ancestry DNA test brought them together. She had since become the sparkle in her father’s eye.

He was one proud Dad, posting, “MY KID DUZN’T QUIT…YOU GO GIRL! LOVE, DAD. FORGOT… DESERT STORM VET, ARMY Lt., COMPUTER GURU, YOGI and LOVING WIFE. MEMBER OF AMERICAN LEGION POST, WHIDBEY ISLAND #141, WHIDBEY ISLAND, WA. SORRY FOR ALL the DAD-STUFF”, the KID ROCKS! GLAD WE FOUND EACH OTHER, IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT!”
