Herbert Paul Lindahl

Herbert Paul Lindahl passed away on Nov. 21, 2005 after a short illness.

Herb was born in 1934 in Cleveland, Ohio and raised with his two brothers, Charles and Roger in Shaker Heights, Ohio.

He graduated from Case College of Technology in 1957. He then joined the Air Force and was stationed at Paine Field in Everett.

As a guest at a water-skiing party at Lake Stevens he met his future wife Barbara Fletcher. They married in July of 1960.

They lived in Cleveland for a year and returned to Bellevue where they raised their three children.

Herb was employed by the Boeing Company as an engineer. He earned a master’s degree in business from Seattle University and then became a sales analyst for the Middle East division at Boeing. Herb embraced the culture and people of the many countries he visited, especially Afghanistan, Jordan and Turkey.

He retired from Boeing in 1993 after 32 years of employment.

In 1984, after several years as week-enders, Herb and Barbara made Sandy Point on Whidbey Island their permanent residence.

Herb enjoyed his woodworking projects, swimming, music, tutoring at South Whidbey Middle School and fishing. A special thank you to Island Paratransit for making many of these activities possible.

“Herby,” as he is known to his family and friends, is survived by his wife, Barbara; his daughters, Katrina Lindahl and Susan (Kirk) Christianson; his son, Douglas (Carol) Lindahl; five grandchildren; and his two best canine pals, William and Nellie.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Nov. 30, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Freeland.

Remembrances can be made to Island Transit in Herb’s name.
