John R. Welch, 74, died peacefully at home in his sleep, Dec. 22, 2017 with his wife Leslie nearby.

John’s health had been declining after surviving tonsil cancer and most recently multiple sclerosis with associated complications. John found comfort latterly in his garden, feeding the squirrels, birds, deer and spending time with friends.

Born May 20,1943 at Aurora, Neb., to Paul and Kathleen Welch. John is survived by his older brother

Joseph and preceded in death by both his mother and father.

John loved to do anything with his hands: building the family home, planting the garden, working in construction, fine woodworking, carving and most recently metal work. He also loved music, playing mandolin, guitar, banjo and singing tenor with friends.

The family would like to thank ResCare for their support and assistance, along with the many friends and family who provided care and friendship throughout his extended illness, with conversation, music and laughs when they were most needed.

John’s ashes will be spread in a private memorial in Langley.

John asked that friends and family be invited to our home for a spring garden party 1 p.m. on May 5. Looking forward to seeing those whose company we both have enjoyed over the years.
