Lois Mae Thayer

Lois Mae Thayer left us to join Our Lord on March 25, 2008.

Lois was born, July 6, 1915, in Saratoga, Wyo. to Frederick Foster and Lillian (Alley) Foster.

She was raised in many of the nation’s most remote and beautiful parks, meeting her future husband, Hanford Thayer, at Yellowstone. They married and settled in the Pacific Northwest.

In 1988, Lois met the great love of her life, Richard Johnston, and enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, playing cards and traveling with Richard.

Lois is best known for her wonderful paintings and was a member of Artists of South Whidbey. She loved nature, the beach, fishing and feeding the little, wild critters that gathered around her home. She was an archery and fencing champion.

Lois was a kind and generous person who was always there to help a friend or family member. She will be greatly missed by all.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Hanford Thayer, her parents, her life partner Richard Johnston and her brother Richard Foster. She is survived by her children Roger Thayer of Seattle, Diane Hill of Camano Island, Alden Thayer of Whidbey Island and Shirley Keith of Tonasket; grandchildren Tammy Stefanich, Terry Thayer, Pat Thayer/Knie, Shawna Blithe, Laura Hanson, Todd Hill; great-grandchildren Heidi, Tara, Hailey, Elrik, River, Finnbarr, Lilly, Bodie, Rachel and Alaina; great–great-grandchild Alison; numerous nieces and nephews; and also her dear friends and extended family Maren Metcalf, Sue and Steve Carlson, Marsha Brown, Peggy Swart and Karen and Jim Carlson.

Special thanks to the staff at Providence Home Health for all their loving care.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 5, at Visser Funeral Home in Langley. Internment will follow at Acacia Memorial Park in Seattle.
