Myrtle Francis Smith

Myrtle Francis Smith was born Feb. 28, 1920. She passed away peacefully at home with her daughter by her side on April 6, 2009.

She was married to the love of her life for 66 happy years. She was proud to tell anyone they only knew each other for a month before they married. They made their home in Clarkston, where they raised their four children. There they farmed and built many homes.

They spent their early retirement traveling between Mexico and Canada where they split their time fishing and gathering shells. Myrtle made many flower arrangements out of the shells she found, and lovingly gave them as gifts to anyone who was helpful or caring to her or her family.

Fishing brought them to Whidbey, where they settled and built their final home near Langley in 1979. Myrtle was a loyal member to the Goss Lake water community for many years, where she made dear friends.

Myrtle is preceded in death by her husband James and her son John. She is survived by her loving children, Lavonne Trimble of Oak Harbor, Charles Smith of Alaska, and Mary Fraser of Langley, as well as eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and two living sisters, Viola and Ethel Idaho.

She will forever be loved and missed.
