Richard Richardson Jr.: Died March 13, 2021

It is with great sadness that the family of Richard Richardson Jr. announces his passing on March 13, 2021 at his home. He was surrounded by his three children.

Richard, 61, was born and raised in Kaneohe, Hawaii. He is a proud graduate of Castle High School, where he competed as a varsity basketball player. He left Hawaii briefly to attend Devry Institute of Technology in Arizona and earned an associate’s degree in electronics. After graduating, Richard returned home and began working as a computer programmer at WebCo and Computer Land in Hawaii.

In 1990, he moved to Oak Harbor, Wash., where he had the privilege to raise his children as a stay-at-home dad for the next 10 years. In 2000, Richard launched his career as a CNC Operator at Hexcel Corporation, where he stayed for 20 years before retiring.

Richard was smart, athletic, funny and kind. He loved meeting people and telling stories, especially of Hawaii. He always remembered the people he met, even if the encounter was only a brief moment. Richard loved to cook. Some of his favorite dishes to create included fried rice, spam musubi, cone sushi and chicken katsu. He was a craftsman as well. He became proficient at tile work with his father, engaged in endless household projects, and was a true jack of all trades.

Richard was an avid collector. He loved to shop for new acquisitions and could often be found at a local swap meet, garage sale, retail store or thrift shop in search of a rare collectible. He would sing frequently and enjoyed karaoke with friends and family. Richard found solace and peace in listening to music.

Richard was preceded in death by his father and namesake Richard Richardson Sr. and his goddaughter Carli Dias.

Richard is survived by his mother Carol Richardson; sister Jade Lyne (Roy) Haigler; daughters Andreana (Devin) McKelvey and Jordan Richardson; son Jordache (Nikki) Richardson; granddaughter Michaela McKelvey; nieces Morgan and Courtney Haigler; many cousins with whom he was close; and countless friends.

A celebration of life will be held for Richard 11 a.m. May 1, 2021 at Life Church, 1767 N.E. Regatta Dr., Oak Harbor, WA. Wear your favorite aloha shirt or Hawaii- inspired attire. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the ALS Association-Evergreen Chapter would be graciously welcomed as they provided support for Richard during the last years of his life.
