Robert G. McQueen: July 13, 1941 – Sept. 15, 2019

Robert G. McQueen, 78, passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon, Sept. 15, in The Dalles, Ore., after a short illness.

Bob was born on July 13, 1941, in Gallatin, Mo., on the JC Penney farm. He was the last of the “Penney babies” born on the farm.

Bob loved music, particularly jazz, and would often hum or whistle a tune. As a child, he loved the trumpet and worked very hard at playing it well. After high school, Bob, aka R.G. or “Uncle Arch,” left his home to reunite with his brothers, Larry and Denny, on Whidbey Island. It was at a Bayview dance that Bob met Susan (Christoe) McQueen, and they were married in 1961. Bob joined the Navy soon after and the new couple began their lives together living in Sasebo, Japan.

Over the years, they raised three children. Bob was a small business owner and operated Whidbey Marine and Auto Supply in Freeland, Wash.

Bob is preceded in death by his sister Shirley, two brothers, Larry and Dennis.

Bob is survived by his wife of 58 years, Susan; three children, Traci, Rob, and Jodi, and their spouses, Martin Winn, Megan McQueen, and Eric Fogelin; six grandchildren, and one great grandchild; extended family members, Rick Bilodeau, Sandy and kids, Raylene McQueen (Dennis); several special cousins, Dina McQueen Bailey, and her husband, Kevin, and kids.
