Shirley Bauder: June 4, 1942 – June 13, 2019

Mrs. Shirley Anne Bauder (Bushell) of Greenbank, Wash. (Lagoon Point), passed away at home surrounded by her children and spouse on June 13 after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She was 77 years old.

Shirley was born on June 4, 1942 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada to Patricia and Norman Bushell (deceased). Shirley immigrated to the United States in 1965. She and her husband, Bill, met in 1974 and lived in San Diego, Calif., until 1984 when they moved to Tennessee for four years, and then Texas for two years. Upon retirement, they moved to Greenbank full time.

Shirley was the “CEO” of her beloved family. She made a career of raising and loving her children. Shirley’s work ethic, servant heart, and caring ways set an example for all who loved her, and paved the way for her children to experience successful lives.

Shirley was a talented quilter, knitter, and seamstress. She enjoyed cooking and baking and was known for her soups and delicious pies. Camping, fishing, and playing golf were some of Shirley’s favorite activities. She was also known for playing a mean hand of cards.

Shirley participated in many extracurricular activities as a long-standing member of St. Augustine’s in-the-Woods Episcopal Church; she served on the Altar Guild, the Caring Committee, Episcopal Church Women and was involved for many years in the Trash and Treasure sale, Holiday Boutique, and Women’s Bible study. In addition, Shirley was involved in TOPS and a quilting group where she formed many close friendships over the years. Additionally, Shirley volunteered at Whidbey Health Medical Center as an auxilian.

Shirley was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Mr. Terry Taylor, of Eastend, Saskatchewan, Canada. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Mr. Bill Bauder, of Greenbank; daughters, Heather Owens, of Franklin, Tenn., and Janeanne Morgan, of Ventura, Calif.; and her son and his wife, Billy and Carolyn Stauffer, of Seattle, Wash. She is also survived by her brother and his wife, Bob and Maureen Bushell, of Calgary, Alberta; brother and his wife, Bill and Helen Bushell, of Victoria, British Columbia; and her sister, Margie Taylor, of Eastend, Saskatchewan; and their families. Shirley is also survived by her seven grandchildren and two great-grandsons: Claire Morgan, Samantha Davis, Kyle Owens, Alexandra Morgan, Franklin, Wiley and Sidney Stauffer, Bode Morgan, and Bobby Davis.

Shirley’s family would like to acknowledge and thank the nurses and staff of the MAC unit whose supportive care over the past three years comforted and reassured our family that she was loved and very well cared for.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, June 22 at St. Augustine’s in-the Woods. A reception time to share conversations, memories and stories of Shirley will take place at 1 p.m. in the parish hall, to be followed by a liturgical service in the sanctuary at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests any charitable gifts be made to St. Augustine’s in-the-Woods, 5217 Honeymoon Bay Road, Freeland, WA 98249.
