The Rev. Wayne Eugene Bohling: Dec. 8, 1926 – Aug. 1, 2021

Pastor Wayne Bohling passed on Aug. 1, 2021 while in hospice care in Detroit Lakes, Minn.

Born in Hebron, Neb., Wayne followed his love for Christ and passion for ecumenical study attending Wartburg Seminary in Iowa.

Throughout his career he pastored Lutheran churches in Iowa, Nebraska, Washington state, California, Oregon and New Mexico.

Wayne and his wife of 53 years, Carol, also served as ministry staff for the Gray’s Harbor County Seamen’s Center.

Wayne pastored the Camano Island Lutheran Church from 1966 to 1973 and a two-point parish on south Whidbey Island, St. Peter’s Lutheran, Clinton, Wash., and Trinity Lutheran, Freeland, Wash., from 1973-1977.

Wayne loved music and travel. He led his young family on cross-country singing tours, driving long hours, and sightseeing along the way.

Wayne was always full of energy and ready to help in any circumstance. He stayed healthy and active through his final years.

Wayne is survived by his sister Glennis Stephens, of Kansas City, Mo.; brother Jim Bohling, of Phoenix, Ariz.; children John Bohling, of Kapaa, Hawaii; Marilee (Otto) Hanssen, of Bellevue, Wash.; Alan (Nancy) Bohling, of Bellevue; and five grandchildren, Danielle Hanssen, Desiree Hanssen, Bradley Hanssen, Elizabeth Bohling and Jeffrey Bohling.

Preceeding him in death are his recent wife, Mardell Halstensgaard, of Detroit Lakes, Minn.; wife Carol; his eldest son Jay; and daughter Janelle. Wayne is laid to rest beside Carol at the Camano Lutheran Cemetery.
