Lack of emergency vets on island is a serious problem | Letter

Editor,

Last night, our large, blue-eyed beautiful dog suddenly became very ill. Although it was only 4:15 p.m., I called our vet as well as every vet, including a mobile vet, from Oak Harbor south to please come to our home to help our boy. I even called a mobile vet in Mount Vernon. To a person, the response was either leave a voice mail or “We’re so sorry, we don’t make house calls.” Our boy died. I think it’s outrageous that there are no emergency vets on this island. They might not have been able to save Jake, but at least someone could have tried.
