Sixteen days have ticked by and the South Whidbey Record is still waiting for its first baby of the year.
Oh what a relief it is. We’re not talking about Alka-Seltzer, we’re talking about the new Republican on the Island County Board of Commissioners.

I have been a teacher within the South Whidbey School District for 35 plus years. The majority of my wonderful career has been spent working within traditional classrooms teaching a variety of terrific kids.
The publicly owned Greenbank Farm is having a dickens of a time sustaining itself. The Port of Coupeville owns the developed acreage but the farm bleeds money. The port “farms out” management to the Greenbank Farm Management Group, which needs an annual subsidy from the cash-strapped port to operate.
With 2012 behind us, 2013 could stand to heed a warning from the year that was.
Even on Whidbey Island we need a fresh start once in a while, which is why the new year is one of our favorite times.

Your recent article on school lunch was timely and informative. However it points to a number of misperceptions and factual mistakes both by the public and the school district which are reflected in the article.
It’s a sad situation, but the time has arrived for Langley to start looking for a new mayor.
Well, they went ahead and did it. Lame duck Angie Homola and fellow Democratic Island County Commissioner Helen Price Johnson adopted a curbside recycling program, appropriately ending environmentalist Homola’s one term with an environmental victory.

It’s Dec. 22: The first day of our last weekend before Christmas. Time to rush here, rush there, go to the mall, the mega grocery store, wait at traffic lights, purchase just the right gift made in China, mutter curses in silent parking space battles, try to merge when nobody wants to slow down to let your car onto the freeway. As Peggy Lee used to sing, “Is this all there is?”
