Another game, another no-hitter for the Falcons / Baseball

Opening its season with its second straight no-hitter, the South Whidbey High School baseball team slipped by visiting Chimacum 4-0 Saturday, March 16.

Now the Falcons (2-0) turn their attention to league play when they begin a three-game series with Granite Falls (1-2) at 4 p.m. Monday, March 18, on the Tigers’ diamond. Granite Falls comes to Langley at 4 p.m. Wednesday, and the two teams return to Granite Falls Friday.

Four Falcons joined forces to toss the no-hitter at Chimacum. Ethan Petty took the mound for the first four innings, then Kody Newman, Drew Fry and Brent Batchelor threw one inning each.

South Whidbey broke open the game in the fifth inning when it stroked five of its six hits to plate the four runs – all with two outs.

Petty led off with a single, stole second and scored on Nick Young’s two-out base hit. Singles by Jon Bartel and Fry plated two more runs, then, after a walk to Newman, Batchelor singled in the final run.

Fry also singled in the fourth inning for South Whidbey’s only other hit.
