Falcon golfers qualify for second round

South Whidbey’s boys and girls golf teams advanced a handful of golfers to Round 2 of the District 1 golf tournament. The field was cut in half after Round 1 on Monday.

South Whidbey’s boys and girls golf teams advanced a handful of golfers to Round 2 of the District 1 golf tournament. The field was cut in half after Round 1 on Monday. The Falcon boys were at the Skagit Golf and Country Club in Burlington, and the girls were at the Snohomish Golf Course.

On the Falcon boys team, seniors Harrison Price and Jesse Portillo advanced to the second round Tuesday, after the Record went to press. Price was in a three-way tie for second place behind Blaine’s Ryan Wallen, the medalist with a score of 75. Portillo shot an 83.

On the Falcon girls team, two of the three entries qualified for the second round. Jenna Kaik and Chelsey Schultz, both juniors, were under the cut of 109 strokes. Kaik shot a 93, Schultz a 103 and freshman Rosie Portillo a 115.
