Falcons participate in opening meet / Swimming

Tasting meet action for the first time this spring, the South Whidbey High School swimmers competed with Kamiak and Lake Stevens Tuesday, Sept. 17, in Mukilteo.

The Falcons practice with Kamiak but do not score points in their meets. Kamiak defeated the Vikings 105-80.

South Whidbey will travel with the Knights when they face Edmonds-Woodway at the Lynnwood Pool at 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19.

Ashley Lynch posted the best efforts for the Falcons against Kamiak and Lake Stevens, two of the strongest 4A programs in the region.

She clocked the second best time (1:08.59) in the 100-yard backstroke and the third best (2:31.69) in the 200 individual medley.

Lynch also joined Falcons Parker Forsyth, Katie Zundel and Abigail Ireland on the fifth-place 200 medley relay team (2:14.59). Sarah Zundel teamed with three Knights to finish eighth in the same event (2:30.12).

Katie Zundel (seventh, 5:04.67), Lynch (eighth, 5:08.35) and Devin King (ninth, 5:09.89) were part of separate 400 relay teams.

Forsyth, Sarah Zundel and Ireland were on the seventh-place 200 free relay squad (2:20.34).

In individual events, Forsyth was fifth in the 100 butterfly (1:13.39) and seventh in the 100 breaststroke (1:23.14), Katie Zundel was seventh in the butterfly (1:14.96) and eighth in the IM (2:48.1), Sarah Zundel was ninth in the breaststroke (1:27.87) and 19th in the 50 freestyle (35.36), Ireland was 11th in both the IM (3:00.77) and butterfly (1:28.1), and King was 12th in the backstroke (1:36.64) and 18th in the 100 free (1:16.56).
