Falcons start season at Shootout / Girls golf

The South Whidbey High School girls golf team began the season by placing 10th in the 18-team Whidbey Shootout Tuesday, March 20, at the Whidbey Golf Club in Oak Harbor.

The Falcons were the only 1A school in the field, which included four 4A teams, 11 3A teams and two 2A teams.

3A Mercer Island easily won with a 330, 54 shots ahead of second-place Bellingham.

South Whidbey shot a 444 and tied Marysville-Getchell for 10th.

Falcon Kolby Heggenes finished third among individuals with a 12-over 84.

Mercer Island’s Gihoe Seo (77) and Ella Warburg (79) took the top two spots out of 80 golfers.

South Whidbey’s Emma Leggett carded a 110, good for 34th, followed by Alyssa Ludtke (121, 52nd) and Tori Schuller (129, 60th).

The Falcons take on Cedar Park Christian (Bothell) at the Echo Falls Golf Course at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 29.
