Falcons whip Wolverines / Soccer

Reserves received plenty of action in the South Whidbey High School soccer team’s 10-1 non-league win over visiting Friday Harbor Saturday, Oct. 5.

“Saturday’s game provided our team an opportunity to play some of our freshmen JV players who have not had an opportunity to play up on the varsity team,” coach Terry Swanson said. “We were also able to rest many of our starters to prepare for the second half of the season.”

The second round of North Sound Conference matches begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, when the Falcons (5-0, 9-0) play at Cedar Park Christian (3-2, 6-3).

In the rout of the Wolverines, Simone White scored twice and added two assists, Karyna Hezel had a goal and three assists, Mikenna Wicher and Samantha Ollis each tallied twice, Rudy Bond recorded a goal and assist, Ashton Helseth landed a 40-yard free kick, Elizabeth Haines scored and Kelly Murnane collected an assist.

Friday Harbor scored on a penalty kick awarded for a hand ball.

“I was proud of our team keeping up defensive pressure throughout the game even though the play was slow,” Swanson said.
