The South Whidbey tennis team tried once again to play a match, this time against Anacortes at home on Monday. Before the match was rain cancelled, Riley Newman won 6-0, 6-0 and Van Morgen won his match 6-1, 6-2.
“We played Anacortes for almost an hour before the rains came,” Falcon coach Tom Kramer explained. “Today we head to Burlington and Wednesday Ferndale is here.”
If both matches play out, that will end the regular season. District action begins at Sehome at noon Saturday, Oct. 25.
Martin finishes well at Hole in the Wall invite
Emily Martin was the top finisher for the South Whidbey cross country team as Lakewood High School hosted 1,400 athletes from 20 high schools and 10 middle schools in the 25th annual Hole in the Wall Invitational.
Martin ran the 5,000 meter course in 20 minutes, 06.62 seconds to place seventh for the varsity girls team. Blake Koszarek finished in 42nd for the boys with 17:30.80, a career personal best.
Overall, the Falcons placed fourth with 175 points out of 20 teams from around the Northwest, behind Capital with 117 points, Lakewood (130) and Roosevelt (136) but ahead of Peninsula (192), Issaquah (197), Archbishop Murphy (217), Arlington (219), Stadium (223), Bellevue Christian (288), Bothell (409) and Lynnwood (502).
The course was run entirely on the Lakewood High School campus that included varied terrain with significant portions on grass and gravel trails.
After Martin came Caroline Habel for South Whidbey in 20:44.85; Chantal White, 20:48.00; Jessica Cary, 21:25.93; Taya Jae, 22:23.97 and Courtney Bosman with 22:58.80.
Following Koszarek was Scott Stallman in 17:56.54; Ben Saari, 18:01.11; Dean Freundlich, 18:17.18 and Jasper Tyler in 20:13.36.
“With two weeks off until the Cascade Championships we hope to fine- tune things a bit and get a few runners healthy so we can make a run at districts, at home Nov. 1,” said Falcon coach Doug Fulton.
The Falcon cross country team travels to the Cascade Conference competition which begins in earnest on
Oct. 25 at Lakewood.
