Nielsen leads Falcons at Terrace Invitational / Track

The efforts of Sophia Nielsen highlighted the performance of the South Whidbey High School track team at the Mountlake Terrace Invitational at Edmonds Stadium Saturday, April 14.

As a team, the Falcon girls placed fourth in the 30-team meet and highest among 1A schools. The South Whidbey boys were 14th, second among 1A teams.

Nielsen collected South Whidbey’s only first place, winning the 100 hurdles in 15.8; she was also second in the triple jump (35-01.5) and third in the long jump (15-05) and 4×100 relay with Karyna Hezel, Alexandra Kurtz and Mikayla Hezel (53.4).

Elizabeth Donnelly placed second in the 800 (2:23.96).

The Falcon boys were led by third-place finishes by Sam Martin in the pole vault (10-06) and the 4×100 relay team (Carlhenri Chapman, Matthew Simmons, John Bartel, Caden Spear; 44.85).

South Whidbey’s next meet is 4 p.m. Thursday, April 19, when Cedar Park Christian-Bothell, King’s and Sultan visit Langley.

Sixth, boys: Kristopher Dixon, 300 hurdles, 43.4; Owen Boram, javelin, 144-10.

Seventh, girls: Swegler Richmond, 800, 2:32.77.

Eighth, girls: Straub, 100, 13.48.

Eighth, boys: Issiah Gonzales, high jump, 5-04.
