Update: South Whidbey stays undefeated / Soccer

Spurred by a hat trick by freshman Simone White, the South Whidbey High School soccer team beat visiting Sultan 4-0 Tuesday, Sept. 24.

In addition to scoring three goals, White assisted fellow freshman Elizabeth Haines on the fourth.

While White was leading the offense, the Falcon defense allowed zero shots on goal.

“Our team is playing very strong defense over the entire field,” coach Terry Swanson said.

South Whidbey dominated possession as Sultan loaded the box with eight defenders.

“Our players adjusted and looked for passing seams and kept their shots low on the goalkeeper,” Swanson said.

The Falcons (3-0, 5-0) now play six games in 13 days, starting with a non-league match with University Prep (3-3) at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at Twin Ponds Park.

The traditionally tough Puma and South Whidbey have a “great rivalry,” according to Swanson. UPrep defeated South Whidbey 2-1 last year, and the Falcons knocked the Puma out of the playoffs in 2017.
