South Whidbey loses 2 / Girls basketball

Cedar Park Christian and the Northwest School each handed the South Whidbey High School girls basketball team a loss over the weekend.

The Falcons fell 61-35 to CPC in a conference game Friday, Jan. 11, in Bothell and then lost 35-22 to Northwest Saturday in a non-league game in Seattle.

The Falcons (0-5, 2-12), still looking for their first conference win, will have two chances this week.

South Whidbey, after three consecutive road games, hosts first-place King’s (5-0, 10-4) at 6:45 Tuesday, Jan. 15, and then travels to Coupeville (3-2, 5-7) for a 5 p.m. game Friday, Jan. 18.

Cedar Park Christian’s Irena Korolenko poured in 11 points in the first quarter as the Eagles zipped to a 27-5 lead. Lexi Starets-Foote scored 5 Falcon points.

Sammi Daly hit a three-ball for South Whidbey in the second quarter, but Korolenko added 6 more points and CPC (4-1, 8-5) went into the locker room with a 37-11 lead.

The Falcons’ offense picked up in the third quarter when South Whidbey outscored the Eagles 17-11.

Six different Falcons scored in the period, led by Ella Wood with 5 points, as Wood and Farriss Jokinen each knocked down threes.

Korolenko finished with 31 points.

Starets-Foote paced South Whidbey with 8; Wood had 6; Kayla Knauer, Emma Hodson and Arianna Briggs 4 each; and Jokinen, Daly and Rachel Harder 3 apiece.
