South Whidbey 6, King’s 5

The Falcons scooted to a 2-0 lead in the first inning behind singles by Drew Fry, Kody Newman and Brent Batchelor.

King’s battled back to take a 4-2 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth when the Falcons scored once. Alex Black singled, moved to second on an error, stole third and scored on Fry’s sacrifice fly to center field.

Then South Whidbey took the lead for good with the three-run fifth. Singles by Batchelor and Nick Young, walks to Nick Black and Luke Rookstool and a hit batter, Ethan Petty, produced the rally.

The Knights scored once in the sixth but went down in the order in the seventh. Petty, who pitched the final three innings, fanned the last two King’s hitters and finished with four strikeouts.

Batchelor tossed the first four innings and had six strikeouts.

Alex Black, Batchelor and Young all had two hits in the game; Fry and Newman rapped one each.
