The Falcons took a one-run lead in the first inning and never trailed. By the third, South Whidbey scored two more runs. In the fourth, the Falcons scored their final run and held off the Cougars’ seventh-inning rally for only one more score and a 4-2 victory.

Sterba threw eight strikeouts. Nick Bennett hit a double.

The win bumped South Whidbey to 4-4 in Cascade Conference play.

On Wednesday, the Falcons drove a long way for a loss. South Whidbey (4-5 overall) fell to Blaine, 8-3, in a battle of 1A schools.
